Let’s nurture a culture to set New Year’s resolutions

By Jumia Travel Tanzania

Are you still wondering why you are not impressed with the achievements attained in the previous year 2016? If the answer is YES, then this article would be of a great importance to you.

Most people don’t understand why it is very difficult to track their personal development due to not having a set of goals. Goals differ according to what one desires to achieve in a certain period of time. Jumia Travel (www.travel.jumia.com) would like to share with you the following tips as we are still at the very beginning of the New Year 2017.

First of all, we must understand that goals can be big or small, long-term or short-term that depends on somebody’s preference. Therefore, it is very important to know the kind of goals you have. For instance, a goal to build a house cannot be achieved with the same strategies and tactics as to buy furniture.

It is suggested that we should not put limit to ourselves towards the goals we set because of how big they are or based on our ability to achieve them. Set a realistic goal that you will be able to achieve in a given period of time.
Usually, human beings are guided by goals which ultimately make life meaningful. Goals may differ from one person to another such as the desire to become a prominent person within the community or to achieve something in a lifetime.

There are a lot of people who want to be renowned journalists or authors in the community but do not show any effort to become ones. For example, a goal to become a well celebrated journalist might be influenced by one you consider your best within the industry. So, have you had a chance to read or research on his or her biography? Know challenges he or she has been through? Those are key questions someone must ask himself/herself before taking a decision.

It is every student’s dream to become top of the class or school after the final exams but how many do really work hard to make that become a reality? Most of them fail to achieve that because they lack effective strategies and tactics. You might find that a student neither attend the classes nor study after class hours but still hopes to pass the exams.

Apart from those examples, there is nothing as challenging as setting and achieving a long-term goal like saving some money for future use. For instance, January is the toughest month to most people because it is the time they have spent much money on holidays, and are required to clear many bills including school fees, house rents, vehicle’s insurance, and road licences to mention a few. But believe it or not people will forget and live normal lives as if nothing has happened, and will keep on lamenting on the same situation during the next occasion.

Those are just a few examples of goals which can be set and achieved. This is the right time to set your own goals. With the New Year still young, you still have enough time to plan and execute as well as do evaluation on the past moves. We know it is a very difficult culture to adapt, especially to most Tanzanians but it is useful once you start to practice and be committed.
