2016 was a successful year to the tourism sector across the world as it recorded a number of 1.2 billion people who traveled the world. Out of these, 58 million people travelled to Africa, according to a report released by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
That report was presented during the 8th edition of the FITUR, the Spanish Tourism Fair organized by INVESTOUR on January 19th, 2017 in Madrid, Spain in a joint initiative of the UNWTO and Casa Africa. It involved stakeholders and over 20 Ministers of Tourism from different African countries.
The conference focused on two main agendas: ‘Technology and design of new touristic products’ and ‘Capacity development for youth and women in tourism.’
Speaking as part of the participating panelists, Jumia Travel CEO, Paul Midy commented that, “That huge number of people who travelled within their borders is the sign that they are increasingly embracing domestic tourism thus frequenting local tourist attractions. Therefore, immediate measures by tourism stakeholders should be taken in promoting tourist attractions. Meanwhile, facilitating easy access to accommodation services is a key point as is price-cut in accommodation which would be a huge relief to travellers.”
According to the report, there is a high possibility for domestic tourism to bolster. This is because as part of the 1.2 billion people who travelled the world, 6 billion people toured within their borders. This indicates that immediate efforts must be taken to promote and encourage people to visit local tourist attractions.
In an effort to make sure Tanzanians tour destinations they desire, Jumia Travel has been offering dream deals every Wednesday which lasts until Friday every week. The offers are a relief to most travellers who love to travel but perceive a high price in some hotels as a major setback.
All the hotels which are in Travel Wednesday deals are located in tourist attractions such as conservation areas, mountains, clean and attractive beaches along the Indian Ocean, birds life, as well as delicious dishes and cultural life of indigenous.
