Veteran photographer, Mpoki Bukuku dies in Dar es Salaam.

MEDIA fraternity in the country today suffered yet another blow as they lost an asset in journalism following the sudden death of senior photographer with the Guardian Limited, Mr Mpoki Bukuku (44).

A statement issued by the Guardian Limited Managing Director, Mr Richard Mgamba, expressed great shock and disbelief following the death of the veteran photographer who passed away today morning at the Muhimbili National Hospital.
“Bukuku has finished his journey on earth, physically he is not with us, but spiritually and professionally, he will always be with us forever,” said Mgamba in a statement as he joined the bereaved family and friends during these difficult times.
“I humbly send my condolences to Bukuku’s widow, children and the entire media fraternity in Tanzania, for the sudden and shocking death of one of our own. T
o his family, they have lost a father, a husband, and above all, a true friend, but to us, we have lost a true friend and an asset in journalism fraternity,” he added.
Expressing his outstanding qualities, Mr Mgamba said Bukuku was just a human being just like any of us, but in journalism, he was a man who loved his profession and was not scared to fight for a good story.
“That is why sometimes his quest to get the best out of the rest landed him in trouble,” Mr Mgamba said.
He added that for those who understand photojournalism, they know that courage and daring are two key factors for any credible photographer to capture a powerful story, saying that Bukuku had these two key factors.
“He was courageous and daring, especially when he was pursuing a big story anywhere in this country,” he said.
Mr Mgamba said the late Bukuku was a journalist not by accident, but by choice, and that is why he had passion in pursuing various news assignments he was assigned by his superiors.
